We carefully select each piece of wood we use. However, wood is a natural product, and over time splits, cracks, and movement can occur. We hope you’ll recognise this as part of the unique character and charm of your item. As with anything, the better you look after it, the better shape it will stay in!
We offer a choice of wood finish:
A natural oil and wax based product that soaks into the wood, creating a weather resistant surface. Wash with warm soapy water and reapply Osmo Oil as necessary. For further information, visit the Osmo UK website.
A natural oil product that includes tung oil. It soaks in, feeding the wood from within and providing some water resistance. It is food and toy safe when dry. Products should be wiped clean using a warm soapy cloth; running tap water can be used. Always wipe dry and never soak in water. Reapply Danish Oil or other mineral oils as required.
As it says — natural, with nothing added. Left outside, the wood will develop a silvery-grey appearance and some warping may occur. Indoors, it will maintain its natural look for a long time but will eventually dull down. A light rub with sandpaper will give it a lift.
Most of our products are made from oak, sourced from Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, where large, well-managed forests operate within the Forest Stewardship Council certification system. For further information, visit the FSC UK website. Other woods we use — such as ash, beech, and iroko — are also sourced from FSC-certified woodland.
